Accra, the nation’s capital, is experiencing power outages in over 50 communities, according to an announcement by the Electricity Company of Ghana (ECG). The outages, known as “dumsor,” are a result of a reduction in power supply by the Ghana Grid Company Limited (GRIDCo).
On Thursday, April 25, 2024, GRIDCo decreased electricity supply to ECG’s supply points, leading to outages in various areas.
Affected communities include parts of Airport Residential Area, Adabraka, Dans Bar, Asylum Down, West Ridge, Haatso Ecomog, Dome Pillar, Mallam Abease, McCarthy Hill, Gbawe Zero, Top Base, Gonse, Salaga Market, and others.

In a statement, ECG listed the affected areas, which also include James Town, La Beach Road, Teshie Maami, Flower Pot, Airport Hills, Bubuashie Cable & Wireless, Ayigbe Town, Abeka Market, New Fadama, Achimota School, Shikpontele, Toman, Pokuase Township, Pobiman, Agya Appiah, Ecoblock, John Teye, Franko Estates, Chorkor, Agege Lorry Park, Chemuanaa, Sempe, Korle Gonno, Mile 7, Maple Leaf, New Achimota, Petroleum, Kinsby, Nii Boi Town, Chantan, Shiabu, and Dansoman Beach Road.
Additionally, Gbegbeyisee, Tesano, Alajo, Santana Market, South Industrial Area, Timber Market, Palladium, Kantamanto Market, Kotobabi Down, Abavana Down, Dzorwulu, Abelemkpe, Nsawam Market, Nsumia, Akramaman, Sakyikrom, Teiman Township, Burgar Town, and surrounding communities are also affected.
