The Board of the National Cathedral of Ghana has announced that preparations are in progress to resume construction of the project following the submission of an audit report by Deloitte Ghana.

The audit assessed the financial records of the National Cathedral of Ghana (NCG) and confirmed that the Secretariat maintained accurate and transparent accounts for the year ending December 31, 2020.

Apostle Professor Opoku Onyinah, Chairman of the National Cathedral Board, addressed the findings in a letter dated September 24, 2024, to church leaders, stating that the audit was essential to ensuring the project’s financial credibility, a demand from both Christian leadership and the public.

“With the completion of this report, we are now preparing for construction to resume. We appreciate your ongoing support and trust that this audit will encourage your prayers and financial backing for the NCG project,” the statement read.

The National Cathedral project has faced considerable public criticism, particularly after allegations from North Tongu MP Samuel Okudzeto Ablakwa, who raised concerns about impropriety and financial misconduct in the construction process.

He accused Rev. Victor Kusi Boateng, Secretary to the Board of Trustees, of a conflict of interest and requested an investigation from the Commission for Human Rights and Administrative Justice (CHRAJ).

In light of these concerns, the Board sought an independent audit by Deloitte to uphold transparency.

Additionally, Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia, the Flagbearer of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), has pledged to complete the National Cathedral project if elected president, highlighting the significant state funds already allocated for its construction.
