The Ghana Police Service has urged political parties and independent candidates to manage their expectations ahead of the 2024 elections, emphasizing the need for peace and stability in the high-stakes contest.

This call was made during a police briefing with representatives from all political parties on November 21, where the service outlined its comprehensive preparations for the elections.

Inspector General of Police, Dr. George Akuffo Dampare, reassured stakeholders that the police would address any instances of electoral violence with professionalism, employing measures to either de-escalate or escalate responses as the situation demands.

“With the 13 or the 12, whichever it is, there is one clear thing, only one will win, the rest will not win. In the same way, the 801 vying for the position of 276 seats, only and I repeat only 276 will win, the rest will not win. We need to come to this realisation and therefore measure our expectations.

“If I want to be very blunt, I will say that as you plan to celebrate your possible victory, plan to celebrate your defeat or endure your defeat. So at the end of the day, Ghana and only Ghanaians will win in this election as we have said”, he stated.
