President Akufo-Addo has scheduled a meeting with Organised Labour on Tuesday, June 25, 2024, to discuss the controversial sale of SSNIT hotels.

This development comes after the “Hands Off Our Hotels” demonstration led by Samuel Okudzeto Ablakwa, the Member of Parliament for North Tongu.

Ablakwa revealed the meeting in an interview on TV3’s KeyPoints, expressing hope that it won’t be a mere attempt to persuade Organised Labour to drop their opposition to the sale.

The sale of 60% of SSNIT’s stake in four hotels to Bryan Acheampong, the Agriculture Minister, has sparked widespread criticism.

Ablakwa alleges that Rock City Hotels, owned by Acheampong, is experiencing losses and is unfit to acquire the hotels.

He claims to have intercepted documents showing that Rock City failed to file tax returns for 2022, which Acheampong has denied. Acheampong has challenged Ablakwa to produce the supposed documents.

The meeting between the President and Organised Labour is seen as a response to growing concerns over the sale, which many believe is scandalous.

Ablakwa’s demonstration and petition to the President have added pressure on the government to intervene.

The outcome of the meeting will be closely watched, as the controversy continues to unfold.

The sale has raised questions about the transparency and wisdom of the decision, and many are calling for a halt to the sale.
