George Ayisi,A member of the New Patriotic Party has refuted claims that president Nana Addo Dankwa Akuffo-Addo is corrupt.
Mr Ayisi while speaking said, he has heard a lot of accusations against the president but yet to hear or see any news or allegations alleging the president to be corrupt
“No news media Local or International media has raised any scandal of corruption on President Akufo Addo”.
The member of the NPP claims that the only man he has seen in an international newspaper as corrupt was former President John Dramani Mahama hence he is urging those who tag Akufo Addo with corruption to cease immediately.
Meanwhile Six African leaders were mentioned with a notorious gold smuggling syndicate in April 2023 edition of Al jazeera’s Gold mafia investigative film and it included the President’s name.
The self-acclaimed gold dealer mentioned the six involved in different capacities in the film by helping them in money laundering and keeping bribe proceeds for some top Government officials as well as Presidents.
Most of the Presidents mentioned are in the southern African bloc. The six mentioned includes King mswati in eswatini, Presidents of Zambia,Zimbabwe,South Africa,DR.Congo and Ghana.
When asked about his continental connections, He said “Next door Swaziland, The king is a close friend of mine; Zambia is a close friend of my friend.
DR.Congo,The President has invited me on several occasions to come build a refinery, Ghana’s President is a good friend of mine in fact, he was my lawyer, Cyril Ramaphosa here I know his kids” while his close ally said Zimbabwe is easy.
In a rebuttal statement, The Ghanaian President explained to Al-jazeera in an email that he could not recollect ever representing the Gold mafia in a law court.
