President Akuffo Addo, has appointed COP Dr. George Akuffo Dampare as Acting Inspector General of Police (IGP) with effect from August 1, 2021.
Dr. George Dampare takes over from James Oppong Boanuh, who was appointed as Police IGP by President Akuffo Addo in October 2019.
In a statement signed by Eugene Arhin, the Director of communication at the Presidency, directing the current IGP to “embark on terminal leave with effect from August 1, pending his retirement from the Ghana Police Service on October 7.”
Security Analyst, Mr Sanny, has compliment the appointment of Acting IGP, Dr. George Akuffo Dampare, as the right move and it will restore confident in the Ghana Police Service.
Speaking with GhanaTalksRadio, Mr Sanny, noted that the fact that Dr. George Akuffo Dampare rose through the ranks to his current position will motivate young officers to aim high and put up a positive behavior.
The challenges and crime fight are enormous and there is the need to put in place strategies to win the battle against crimes and restore the image of police service in the country, he added.
He again advised the newly appointee Acting Inspector General of Police to work with the ranks and improve the condition of service and moral if he want to succeed.
However, Dr. Dampere has been cautioned against political pressure and interference in his duty because political manipulation of IGPs in the past has been the set back of security challenges in the past. He has been advised to exhibit professionalism in his role.
