In the religion of the annual Independence Day celebration, President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo has therefore announced Monday, 8 March 2021, a Public Holiday.
The Independence Day, which is usually celebrated on the 6th of March every year, falls on a Saturday weekend.
In a statement signed by the Minister-designate, through the Ministry of Interior stated: “In view of the fact that 6 March, 2021 falls on Saturday, His Excellency, the President of the Republic of Ghana has by Executive Instrument (EI), in accordance with Section 2 of the Public Holidays and Commemorative Days Act, 2001 (601), declared Monday, 8 March, 2021 as a Public Holiday and should be observed as such throughout the country.”
On the other hand, no parade event will be holding, due to the suspension of parade as a result of the ravaging pandemic.
Suspension of parade will ensure Ghanaians stay safe by maintaining social distancing – which is a pivotal rule of the COVID-19 restrictions.
