President Akufo Addo slams SSNIT hotels sales controversy as unnecessary

President Akufo Addo has characterized the controversy surrounding the sale of hotels owned by the social Security and National Isurance Trust (SNNIT) to the Agriculture Minister, Bryan Acheampong’s Rock City Hotels as unnecessary.

On July 12, Rock City Hotels withdrew its proposal to acquire a 60% stake four SNNIT owned hotels.

This decision came in response to threat of a nation wide strike by organized labour who opposed the sale of the company.

The North Tongu Member of Parliament, Samuel Okudjeto Ablakwa, alongside Organized Labour announced intentions to protest against what they perceived as distressing and inappropriate sale of hotels including one that was reportedly profitable to government official.

Following this events organized labour announced its intentions to reform the representation with SNIT which holds share in this hotels.

But addressing the issue at the top quadrennial Delegates Conference of the Trades Union Congress, President Akufo Addo expressed that the dispute over the sale was unwarranted.
