President Mahama tells new Ministers to declare their assets immediately

President John Dramani Mahama has instructed newly sworn-in ministers to begin the process of declaring their assets without delay.

This directive was issued during a ceremony at the Jubilee House on Wednesday, January 22, where six ministers were sworn into office.

The six newly inducted ministers are:

Dr. Cassiel Ato Forson – Minister for Finance
Dr. Dominic Ayine – Attorney General
John Jinapor – Minister for Energy and Green Transition
Haruna Iddrisu – Minister for Education
Eric Opoku – Minister for Food and Agriculture
Governs Kwame Agbodza – Minister for Roads and Highways
Addressing the ministers, President Mahama underscored the importance of transparency and accountability, stating that the declaration of assets is crucial to building public trust and ensuring good governance.

He further announced that the Chief of Staff would soon communicate a deadline for all appointees to submit their asset declaration forms to the Auditor-General’s office.

The President highlighted the broader significance of the swearing-in ceremony, describing it as part of his administration’s plan to reform Ghana’s institutions and reset the country’s development trajectory.

President Mahama also disclosed that, to date, he has appointed 42 ministers and regional ministers. He reiterated his campaign pledge to cap the number of ministers at 60, confirming that deputy ministers for certain ministries will soon be announced to complete his administration’s team.

Acknowledging the significant challenges facing the nation, President Mahama urged the new ministers to hit the ground running and uphold the principles of integrity and accountability in their respective roles. He emphasized that the swift declaration of assets would serve as a foundation for transparency and effective governance under his administration.

“I expect all of you to begin the process of declaring your assets, the chief of staff will announce the cutoff date by which time, all eligible appointees should have deposited their asset forms with the audited general,” he said.

The President assured the public that the list of deputy ministers will be finalized and presented soon, completing the full complement of 60 ministers in his administration.

“So far I have named 42 ministers of state and regional ministers to begin the urgent task of resetting our dear country Ghana Which has suffered in recent years from severe crisis in many sectors. As the ministers are approved by parliament and they are sworn in, I will proceed to name deputy ministers for some of the ministries which will bring the total ministers to 60 as I promised the people of Ghana,” he stated.
