Ivory Coast’s President Alassane Ouattara has removed the prime minister and dissolved his government, the presidency’s secretary general Aboudramane Cisse said on Friday.

The decision had been expected in recent days after the president informed members of the government of an upcoming reshuffle during the last cabinet meeting on September 28,2023.

Ivorian President Alassane Ouattara removed his prime minister and dissolved his cabinet following the ruling party’s landslide victory in local elections.

Prime Minister Patrick Achi and all the other ministers have been removed by executive decree, the General Secretary to the Presidency Abdourahma Cisse said in a statement

“The president expresses his gratitude to Prime Minister Patrick Achi and to all members of the government for their commitment to serving the nation over the past years,” Cisse said.

They will remain in temporary charge until a new prime minister and government are appointed, he added.

Achi was appointed in March 2021 after his predecessor, Hamed Bakayoko, died of cancer.
