Prince William, the Prince of Wales, will embark on a four-day trip to South Africa next week, during which he will attend the annual ceremony for his multi-million dollar environmental initiative, the Earthshot Prize.

Arriving in Cape Town on Monday, he has planned various events aimed at promoting this initiative, along with participating in the United for Wildlife Global Summit and meeting South African President Cyril Ramaphosa.

According to Kensington Palace, “His Royal Highness looks forward to engaging with the people of South Africa and the broader continent, celebrating the remarkable climate solutions that will be highlighted.”

This visit marks Prince William’s first trip to South Africa since 2010, and he will be traveling solo, as his wife Kate is currently focusing on her recovery from a recent course of preventative chemotherapy for cancer.

Inspired by his previous trip to Africa six years ago, Prince William established the Earthshot Prize in 2020.

The initiative aims to identify innovative solutions for combating climate change and other environmental challenges, awarding five winners £1 million (approximately $1.3 million) each to support their projects.

The awards ceremony is set to take place on November 6, hosted by U.S. actor Billy Porter and South African TV presenter Bonang Matheba, featuring performances from artists such as Nigerian pop star Davido and Tanzanian singer Diamond Platnumz.

Celebrities like supermodel Heidi Klum and actress Nina Dobrev will announce the winners. Porter expressed excitement about participating in an event that celebrates creativity and human ingenuity.
