President John Dramani Mahama has appointed an eight-member committee to organize the upcoming National Education Forum.
The committee, chaired by former Pro Vice-Chancellor of the University of Cape Coast, Professor George K. T. Oduro, has been given two weeks to submit its report and plan.
Other members of the committee include Professor Goski Alabi, Professor Rosemary Bosu, Dr. Samuel Awuku, Professor Smile Dzisi, Kofi Asare, Stephen Owusu, and Inusah Shiraz.
The committee’s Terms of Reference (TOR) include developing a theme and sub-themes for stakeholder engagement, identifying key stakeholders in the education sector, and creating an activity agenda with time allocations for various sessions. These stakeholders will include students, parents, teachers, researchers, civil society organizations, and political bodies, among others.
Propose a venue and date(s) for the forum.
Set up a secretariat to document activities.
Provide a budget for the National Education Forum.
Develop a comprehensive report detailing the findings and recommendations of the Forum.
Draft a national education policy framework and propose an action plan for implementing recommendations within three weeks after the Forum.
Consider any other issue relevant to the organization of the Forum.
Felix Kwakye Ofosu, Acting Spokesperson to the President in a statement issued on Sunday, February 2 emphasised the importance of the Forum in addressing key issues in the education sector and ensuring the development of a comprehensive national education policy framework.
The committee’s work is expected to pave the way for significant improvements in Ghana’s education system.
