University of Ghana political science lecturer, Professor Ransford Gyampo, has called for Supreme Court Judge, Justice Emmanuel Yoni Kulendi, to testify in the ongoing ambulance purchase trial.

This comes after allegations of Justice Kulendi’s involvement in a meeting between the Attorney-General, Godfred Dame, and the third accused, Richard Jakpa, which has raised questions about potential influence peddling and bias.

Professor Gyampo believes it would be hypocritical not to subpoena Justice Kulendi to provide his side of the story, especially given the allegations and the release of a 16-minute audio recording of a conversation between Dame and Jakpa.

The audio recording, released by the National Democratic Congress (NDC), appears to suggest that Justice Kulendi may have played a role in attempting to influence Jakpa’s testimony.

Speaking on TV3’s The Key Points, Professor Gyampo emphasized the need for fairness and restoring confidence in the judicial process.

He stated that subpoenaing Justice Kulendi would help restore confidence in the court processes and prevent further scandalization of the courts.
“We need to hear from Justice Kulendi to ensure transparency and accountability,” Professor Gyampo said.

Meanwhile, the High Court has admitted the audio recording into evidence, and the trial judge, Justice Efia Serwah Asare-Botwey, has set June 13 to rule on the admissibility of the leaked audio recording.

The trial has been ongoing for several weeks, with the first accused, Dr. Ato Forson, facing charges related to the purchase of ambulances.
The case has been plagued by allegations of corruption and political interference, leading to concerns about the integrity of the judicial process.
