Protesters have begun to assemble at the Kwame Nkrumah Interchange (Circle) to march against the Supreme Court’s delay in hearing cases related to the anti-gay bill.

The demonstrators believe that this initiative is vital for safeguarding the innocence of future generations of Ghanaian children.
Currently, there are two anti-LGBTQ+ cases pending before the Supreme Court that have yet to be scheduled for a hearing.
Justice Ellen Ofer-Ayeh, the Registrar of the Supreme Court and a Justice of the High Court, has stated that the delay is due to the parties involved not filing the required processes.
However, Mr. Sam George argues that Chief Justice Gertrude Torkornoo has the authority to compel these parties to take action. He asserts that the demonstration aims to pressure the Chief Justice to prioritize the cases.
“Justice delayed is justice denied, and timely justice is essential for an effective judicial system. The Chief Justice must take action. Based on the letter from her to us, indicating that the Attorney-General shares some blame, we will address our concerns to both the Chief Justice and the Attorney-General,” Mr. George said in an interview with Accra-based Citi FM on October 7.
He emphasized that the protest is non-partisan, stating, “This fight is for the innocence of our children. It transcends ethnicity and religion. We have the support of the Chief Imam. Party colors are prohibited. We are rallying under the national flag.”
In a related matter, the Greater Accra Regional Secretariat of the Pentecostal and Charismatic Council has announced a “Family Values March” scheduled for October 8.

This event is also aimed at protesting the perceived delays in the judicial process concerning the anti-gay bill.
In an invitation letter reviewed by 3News, Greater Accra Regional Chairman Apostle Enoch Osafo stated, “We formally invite all pastors and congregations to join the Family Values March, a peaceful demonstration against the court’s delay in rendering a verdict that would allow the President to sign the bill into law. This crucial initiative seeks to protect the innocence of our children.”
