The Public Services Workers’ Union (PSWU) has officially suspended its strike action in compliance with a directive from the National Labour Commission (NLC).
The strike was halted on Friday, October 25, following the NLC’s order for an immediate suspension of the industrial action.

This directive came after a session in which both the Fair Wages and Salaries Commission (FWSC) and PSWU representatives presented their arguments before the NLC.
Earlier, the NLC had summoned the government team—led by the FWSC and including officials from the Ministry of Employment, Labour Relations, and Pensions (MELRP), as well as the Ministry of Finance—to help mediate the ongoing labor dispute.
The NLC’s involvement was prompted by an October 14 notice from the PSWU indicating their intent to initiate a strike on October 21, 2024, due to unresolved issues regarding two specific allowances for their members.
With the suspension, both sides have been directed to resume negotiations on these allowances and to report their progress back to the NLC.
The commission underscored the importance of negotiating in good faith to resolve the dispute, emphasizing its role in fostering peaceful labor relations as required by the Labour Act, 2003 (Act 651).
