Rafa Benitez, Everton Manager, was fired on Sunday after six disappointing months at Goodison Park.
After a 2-1 defeat by bottom-of the-table Norwich City, Everton has ended Benitez’s tenure. Since Sept. 25, the side has won only one league game, a narrow win over Arsenal in Dec.
“Everton Football Club can confirm Rafael Benitez’s departure as first team manager,” a Everton statement stated. “Benitez joined Everton in 2021 and has now left the club.
“An update will be made on a permanent replacement in due course.”
Benitez joined Everton as a replacement for Carlo Ancelotti who left after twelve months of being in charge to join Real Madrid. A threatening banner was hung outside the Spanish coach’s home by Everton supporters in the days before his signing. This was due to his previous stint with Merseyside rivals Liverpool.
After 19 games, Everton is in 15th position. They are just six points away from the relegation places.
