Rapper Stormzy, 31, has been handed a nine-month driving ban after being caught using a mobile phone while driving his Rolls-Royce Wraith in London.

The artist, whose real name is Michael Ebenazer Owuo Junior, admitted to the offense in a letter, which occurred in March 2023 on Addison Road, West Kensington.

District Judge Andrew Sweet criticized Stormzy’s driving record as “not good” and labeled his actions as “dangerous and irresponsible.” The court heard that the rapper already had six penalty points on his license due to prior speeding offenses.

An undercover officer spotted Stormzy during the incident, reportedly telling him: “Get rid of your tints and get off your phone.”

Stormzy’s solicitor acknowledged the seriousness of the offense and assured the court of his client’s acceptance of responsibility.”

This is not the first time the rapper has faced driving-related offenses. In October 2023, Stormzy was stopped while driving a Lamborghini Urus with illegally tinted front windows, allowing only 4% light transmission compared to the legal requirement of 70%. Prosecutor Alice Holloway stated the violation posed risks to “vulnerable road users.”

The court also imposed a fine of £2,010 on Stormzy, who did not attend the hearing at Wimbledon Magistrates’ Court.
