Dr. Sharif Mahmud Khalid, a member of the National Democratic Congress (NDC) Economic and Finance Committee, has criticized the New Patriotic Party (NPP) government for hastily commissioning incomplete infrastructure projects in what he perceives as a reaction to the NDC’s rising influence.

Speaking on The Big Issue on Channel One TV on Saturday, November 23, Dr. Khalid argued that the NPP’s recent rush to inaugurate projects reflects a sense of desperation to counter the NDC’s growing popularity among Ghanaians.

He specifically pointed to the newly unveiled Flower Pot Interchange, which he claimed was incomplete and hastily inaugurated for political gain.

Dr. Khalid accused the government of bypassing proper processes and safety standards in favor of showcasing achievements, prioritizing appearances over quality.

He added that such actions undermine public trust and reflect broader governance and management failures by the NPP.

“You have the NDC’s flagbearer in his grand style where he is touching lives and communicating the real issues that Ghanaians face and that is going down well and so all these commissions of projects are in response to the good message that the NDC is transmitting around the length and breadth of the country and that is the response to which you are seeing all of this rush in commissioning of projects that are not even up maturity stages.

“If you look at the Flower Pot interchange commissioning, it is laughable that you put murals on walls and pillars overnight and you go around and drains are not still completed and slabs are not closed. How reckless could the president be when you even link this to health and safety standards to commission this road to be used?”
