Over two days, Lebanon experienced a series of explosions involving handheld communication devices used by Hezbollah, resulting in 37 fatalities and thousands of injuries across Syria and Lebanon.

In response, Hezbollah attributed responsibility to Israel, asserting that there would be consequences for what it termed “sinful aggression.”

While Israel has not commented on these incidents, analysts suggest the attacks represent a significant development in the longstanding conflict, especially following Israel’s military actions in Gaza.

The situation has prompted calls for retaliation from Hezbollah, despite the group’s leadership being cautious about escalating the conflict.

The recent attacks are seen as part of Israel’s ongoing efforts to undermine Hezbollah’s communication capabilities, which could have broader implications for the balance of power in the region.

“This is disruption on a massive scale. Through this attack, they’ve essentially removed thousands of fighters from the battlefield without firing a shot.”

The attacks, Attar said, had “essentially created a new reality in clandestine operations”.
