Renowned boxing administrator Alhaji Showumi Williams laid to rest

Former Vice President of the Ghana Boxing Authority (GBA), Alhaji Abdullah Showumi Williams, has been laid to rest. The esteemed boxing administrator was interred in Accra on Friday following Islamic customary rites.

Alhaji Showumi Williams passed away on Wednesday, July 17, after a brief illness.

He was 85 years old.

Alhaji Showumi Williams was recognized for his significant contributions to the development of boxing in Ghana, including offering his residence for the training of boxers.

On Friday, family members and sympathizers paid their respects by reading tributes in his honor. His remains were then taken to the National Mosque for Salaat al-Janaazah prayers before being interred at the Mantse Ankrah Royal Mausoleum.

At the time of his death, Alhaji Showumi Williams also served as the National Coordinator of the Federation of Muslim Councils.
