A Retired Police Commissioner, Nathan Kofi Boakye’s name has been mentioned as a possible running mate to the flagbearer of the NDC, John Dramani  Mahama Ghana’s largest opposition party, the NDC.

According to a Source, the former top police officer would roll seamlessly to the chairmanship of the police council if he is indeed chosen as the running mate and the party wins the 2024 elections.

Mr Nathan Kofi Boakye who is a lawyer has not for once revealed his political leanings by virtue of his professional career as a police officer who has to be politically neutral. He is perhaps being linked to the NDC because of some optics that suggested his close ties with Mr. John Dramani Mahama.

Nathan Kofi Boakye’s Vice-Presidency in any of the political parties looks like an emphasis on security. That is a topical issue in Ghana where public safety and security are under pressure from armed robbery, mysterious murders, thievery, motor traffic offenses, and a total lack of appreciation for the law by large sections of the public.

In his time as Greater Accra regional police commander, Mr Nathan Kofi Boakye carried the fight against hardened criminals, mobilizing multiple assaults on their suspected hideouts. So unrelenting was the assault that incriminates were tamed.

The former police chief is an Ashanti, a region whose numbers rub on elections as one of the geographical kingmakers in Ghana’s politics.
