The Ministry of Roads and Highways reports that the Akufo-Addo administration has made significantly greater investments in road construction compared to previous governments.

Data from the Ministry shows that from 2009 to 2016, 4,636 km of roads were added to the network. In contrast, the current administration has added 12,800 km, representing a substantial increase.

This information was disclosed by the sector minister, Francis Asenso-Boakye, during the induction of Frank Annoh-Dompreh as the new Chairman of the Road Fund Management Board.

“As you all are aware, the Nana Akufo-Addo/Bawumia-led administration has prioritised road infrastructural development since its assumption of office and we do so with the understanding that road infrastructural development is a necessary precondition for any serious socio-economic development.

“It does not just connect people but it promotes trade, economic activities, and tourism and that is why this government has invested in roads. This government has invested in roads more than any other government and it has upgraded the network substantially, in fact, three times more than the previous administration,” he stated.

The minister also announced the launch of a call centre and a maintenance app in the coming weeks to enable the public to report road defects for them to be addressed.

“We are also aware of some public concerns regarding potholes and related issues. So, in the next coming days or weeks the ministry intends to roll out programmes where the public can report road defects through a call centre and a maintenance app with the view to let the public participate,” he added.
