Manchester City and Spanish midfielder Rodri has been honored with the men’s Ballon d’Or for the first time, recognizing him as the world’s top footballer for the year.

The 28-year-old, who lost only one match across all competitions last season, was awarded this prestigious accolade in Paris following his role in Spain’s Euro 2024 victory and Manchester City’s triumphs in the Premier League, UEFA Super Cup, and Club World Cup.

Rodri makes history as the first player from Manchester City to win the Ballon d’Or.

In other awards, Real Madrid was named Club of the Year, and their manager Carlo Ancelotti was awarded Men’s Coach of the Year.

However, no one from Real Madrid was present to accept the awards, reportedly due to the club boycotting the ceremony over speculation that Vinicius Jr. would not win the Ballon d’Or.
