Sporting Lisbon manager Ruben Amorim has indicated that “the lengthy saga is nearing its conclusion,” as he promises an update regarding his anticipated transfer to Manchester United on Friday.

Although many expected an official announcement as early as Thursday, Amorim stated he would refrain from discussing his future until after Sporting’s league match against Estrela da Amadora on Friday.
Amorim is expected to sign a two-and-a-half-year contract with Manchester United, which includes an option for an additional year, although he is likely to begin his new position after the November international break.
“This lengthy saga is nearing its end,” Amorim commented during a press conference on Thursday. He added, “The ambiguity surrounding my situation makes things quite challenging for me.”
United’s CEO Omar Berrada and sporting director Dan Ashworth are in Lisbon to finalize negotiations, with Manchester United officials returning to England on Wednesday night.
Reports suggest that the Premier League club has paid Sporting an additional €1 million (£840,000) beyond Amorim’s €10 million (£8.37 million) release clause to facilitate an earlier exit from his current contract.
Further discussions are ongoing regarding compensation for the coaching staff Amorim intends to bring to Old Trafford.
