The Confederation of African Football (CAF) has imposed a $200,000 fine on Cameroon FA President Samuel Eto’o for ethical violations.
Eto’o faced accusations of match-fixing and ethical breaches.
Following an extensive investigation, the CAF Disciplinary Board determined that there was insufficient evidence to convict Eto’o and Valentin Nkwain of match manipulation.

However, Eto’o was found to have violated Article 2, paragraph 3 of the CAF Statutes by entering into a Brand Ambassador contract with 1XBET for financial compensation.
According to a statement released by CAF on Thursday: “The Confédération Africaine de Football (CAF) Disciplinary Board convened to address the case involving Fédération Camerounaise de Football (FECAFOOT) President Mr. Samuel Eto’o Fils.
“Mr. Eto’o faced allegations of manipulating football matches and breaching ethical principles and integrity.
The Disciplinary Board concluded that there was insufficient evidence to convict Mr. Samuel Eto’o Fils and Mr. Valentin Nkwain of match manipulation at this time.
“However, the Disciplinary Board found Mr. Eto’o to have seriously breached the principles of ethics, integrity, and sportsmanship outlined in Article 2, paragraph 3 of the CAF Statutes by signing a Brand Ambassador contract with the company 1XBET in exchange for remuneration. Consequently, Mr. Eto’o has been fined $200,000 USD.”
After the Indomitable Lions’ disappointing performance in the 2023 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON), Samuel Eto’o expressed his intention to resign as President, urging members of the Executive Committee to consider doing the same “in all conscience.”
However, following heated discussions and intense deliberation, the committee members unanimously voted to reject Eto’o’s resignation, expressing their confidence in his leadership to continue rebuilding and developing Cameroonian soccer.
Eto’o, a former Barcelona and Chelsea striker, enjoyed a distinguished football career before assuming the role of Cameroon FA president three years ago. Despite the fine, he remains a prominent figure in African football.
