The Joint Committee on Mines and Energy, along with Lands and Forestry, has proposed that residents of Ada be educated about the significance of Electrochem Ghana Limited.

This recommendation follows a dispute between Electrochem Ghana Limited and the Ada residents, which resulted in the death of one person last November.

In its report on the Songor Salt Mining operations by Electrochem Ghana Limited, the committee suggested that “the indigenes should be informed by chiefs, stakeholders, and the police that Ghana has a stake in ElectroChem Ghana Limited and its salt mining business in Ada Songhor. Any acts of lawlessness against the company are a direct confrontation with law enforcement agencies in Ghana.”

Furthermore, the committee added, “All national undertakings over the country including the gold mining business of Ashanti Goldfields are operational because of this basic understanding.”
