On April 2, President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo attended the swearing-in ceremony of new President Bassirou Diomaye Faye in Dakar.

Almost all leaders from the West African bloc, ECOWAS, attended the event to celebrate Senegal’s fifth president, who won the March 24 presidential elections with over 54% of the votes.

Also present was ECOWAS president, President Bola Ahmed Tinubu of Nigeria.

In a video seen by GhanaWeb, Akufo-Addo approached the podium to greet President Faye, as other leaders had done at the event center in the city of Diamniadio. After exchanging pleasantries with Faye, Akufo-Addo stood side-by-side with him for photos.

The Constitutional Council of Senegal confirmed Diomaye Faye’s victory in the presidential election by validating the provisional results, which were announced earlier and based on the vote tallies from all polling stations.

In the delayed presidential poll, Faye secured more than 54% of the votes, while the ruling coalition candidate, Amadou Ba, received over 35%.
