The Chiefs and people of Nyankrom, Abuesi, and Shama in the Shama District of the Western region staged a demonstration on Monday, July 3, demanding better roads.

The agitated demonstrators blocked the main entrance roads to Nyankrom and Shama, causing traffic congestion and inconvenience to workers.

PROTEST

The demonstrators expressed their frustration over the unfulfilled promises to fix the roads, despite the fact that the areas host important installations like the Aboadze Thermal plant, Twyford KEDA Ceramics, and Marcopolo, a water-closet manufacturing company that all utilize heavy-duty trucks, which contribute to road damage.

Nana Akosua Gyamfiaba, the Queen mother for Nyakrom, voiced concerns about the poor condition of the road, citing cases of pregnant women experiencing miscarriages due to the road’s deplorable state.

“Pregnant women get miscarriages, why are you reducing our numbers, and when it is time for elections, you want numbers but you are reducing our numbers,” Nana Akosua Gyamfiaba said.
