Dancehall star Shatta Wale, born Charles Nii Armah Mensah, has undergone a traditional spiritual cleansing at the Teshie Next Door Beach, just days after securing bail from the custody of the Economic and Organised Crime Office (EOCO).

The ceremony, performed by the Teshie Gbuglah Mantse, Original Nii Martey Laryea I, was steeped in Ga cultural rites and is said to be a symbolic act meant to free the musician from negative energy and spiritual burdens. Residents who witnessed the ritual described it as a community-backed effort to “reset” the artiste following his legal troubles.
Shatta Wale was granted bail on Thursday, August 21, after spending several days in EOCO custody over his alleged link to a luxury Lamborghini Urus tied to a $4 million fraud case under investigation by U.S. authorities. His initial bail of GHS 10 million was later reduced to GHS 5 million with two sureties. He is also required to report to EOCO three times weekly while investigations continue.

The flashy Lamborghini, a signature model for wealthy elites, became the focal point of the case after being flagged by both the FBI and the U.S. Department of Justice (DOJ). EOCO traced the car’s entry into Ghana to Shatta Wale, though ownership records reportedly connect the vehicle to Nana Kwabena Amuah, a Ghanaian currently serving a prison sentence in the U.S. for his role in a vast fraud syndicate.
Shatta Wale has maintained his innocence, insisting that he purchased the car “off the street” from a man possibly named “ZAK,” though he has not been able to produce any concrete purchase documents beyond a customs declaration originally tied to Amuah. Investigators are now trying to establish whether the artiste knowingly acquired proceeds of crime or was an unsuspecting buyer caught in the web of international financial fraud.
The cleansing rite at Teshie, some observers say, not only reflects Shatta Wale’s personal belief in spiritual renewal but may also be a strategic step to restore public confidence in his image as investigations drag on.
