Six people are receiving medical treatment after a violent clash between residents of Kwahu Abetifi and a group of armed men who stormed the Abetifi Palace in an attempt to destool Kwahu Adontenhene Akyemfour Asiedu Agyemang III, the acting President of the Kwahu Traditional Area.

According to Citi News, tensions escalated when Obaapanyin Yaa Asantewaa, posing as the Abrewatia of the Kwahu area, arrived in Abetifi with a group of armed men.

Initially believed to be National Security operatives, they escorted Yaa Asantewaa to the Abetifi Palace, where she detained Akyemfour Agyemang III.

Yaa Asantewaa and the armed men forcibly moved Akyemfour Agyemang III to a nearby older palace, where she reportedly carried out traditional rites, including the slaughtering of a sheep, in an effort to destool him.

The news of the destoolment spread quickly, inciting the youth of the area to gather with machetes.

The situation only de-escalated following the timely intervention of local law enforcement, alongside a reinforcement of police and military personnel.

Traditional leaders in Abetifi quickly performed their rites, reaffirming Akyemfour Asiedu Agyemang III as chief and restoring him to his position at the main Abetifi Palace.

Police launched an investigation and arrested Yaa Asantewaa and the armed men. To protect them from the angry youth, Yaa Asantewaa was escorted naked under heavy protection to the police station to prevent lynching.
