The Socialist Movement of Ghana (SMG) has congratulated President-elect John Dramani Mahama following his victory in the 2024 general elections.
The SMG views Mahama’s triumph as a clear reflection of the Ghanaian people’s desire for change from the current political, economic, and social systems, which they believe have contributed to the nation’s underdevelopment and exploitation by neo-colonial forces.

On Monday, December 9, 2024, Jean Mensa, the Chairperson of the Electoral Commission, officially declared Mahama the winner of the 2024 presidential elections.
In a statement, SMG General Secretary Kwasi Pratt Jnr expressed the organization’s full support for Mahama.
“On behalf of the leadership and members of the Socialist Movement of Ghana (SMG), I extend warm congratulations to you on your decisive victory in the just-ended Presidential election,” Pratt said.
“Your victory is undoubtedly an indication of the yearning of the people of Ghana for change from the political, economic, and social order responsible for our collective underdevelopment, misery, and exploitation by the predatory forces of neo-colonialism,” he added.
Pratt emphasized the SMG’s hope that Mahama will collaborate with progressive forces to steer the country away from neo-liberalism, which has led to the denial of access to social services for the working people, the destruction of the state sector of the national economy, and a complete surrender to imperialist military establishments.
“The SMG shares the vision of the Founders of the national liberation movements in Africa for continental unity under the broad banner of socialism, and we look forward to working with your administration in furtherance of this lofty goal,” Pratt concluded.
