Sophia Karen Edem Ackuaku, the National Democratic Congress (NDC) MP for Domeabra-Obom Constituency in the Greater Accra Region, has had a remarkable political journey.
She has contested in three different constituencies, showcasing her determination and resilience.
Ackuaku’s political career began in 2012 when she contested the Dome Kwabenya constituency on the NDC ticket, although she lost to Adwoa Safo.

Undeterred, she won the parliamentary primaries for Domeabra-Obom Constituency in 2015 and subsequently won the general elections, representing her constituency for two terms.
In 2016, she secured 68.3% of the total valid votes cast, and in 2020, she won with 60.46% of the total votes.
However, in a surprising turn of events, Ackuaku left her current constituency to contest the NDC parliamentary slot in the Ayawaso Central Constituency in May 2023.
Despite her track record, she lost the contest to Abdul Rauf Tongym Tubazu. As a result, her tenure as MP will officially end on January 7, 2025.
Ackuaku was born on October 7, 1972, in Anyako, Volta Region, and has undergone extensive training in public relations, advertisement, marketing, social work, and leadership.
She has served on the Food, Agriculture, and Cocoa Affairs Committee and the Poverty Reduction Strategy Committee in parliament. Before her parliamentary career, she worked in various roles, including deputy executive director at the Ghana National Service Scheme and managing director at Eligreen/Amsos Ghana Limited.
