English Premier League side Southampton are set to make another attempt in Ghanaian forward Abass Issah in the summer transfer window after failing to sign him in 2018.

The Saints have been watching the former Ghana U-17 star since his days with Slovenian outfit Olimpija, before Mainz O5 secured his services.

However after a difficult start to life in Germany, Abass was sent on loan to Dutch Eredivisie side FC Twente.

The 21-year old impressed in Holland, bagging 8 goals in 22 appearances for FC Twente before the season was cancelled due to the coronavirus pandemic.

Southampton have shown keen interest in the player and are set to meet Mainz O5 to begin negotiations for a move for the Ghanaian.

Mainz O5 are one of the clubs in Germany to be hit hard financially by the outbreak of the virus, and could sell some of the best players in the summer transfer window.

Southampton manager Ralph Hasenhuttl wants another striker to compliment the effort of veteran forward Danny Ings next season.
