The 2nd General Assembly of the Conference of Speakers and Presidents of African Legislatures (CoSPAL) concluded in Accra, Ghana, on October 27, 2024, with Ghana’s Speaker of Parliament re-elected as Chair.

His re-election reflects strong support for his leadership as legislative heads from across Africa gathered to discuss strategic priorities for the continent.
During the two-day assembly, delegates adopted a new CoSPAL constitution and elected leadership positions, reaffirming the Speaker’s extensive experience and commitment to legislative integrity.
He will be supported by five regional Vice-Chairs and a Secretary-General.
The second day of the assembly focused on updates to the CoSPAL Secretariat, the Host Country Agreement, and essential administrative matters such as membership subscriptions.
Delegates also explored opportunities to enhance CoSPAL’s profile and strengthen ties with inter-parliamentary bodies and the African Union.
The assembly concluded with a communique outlining plans for the next General Assembly, aimed at promoting unified legislative progress across Africa.
