The Special Prosecutor has made a startling revelation about the extreme dangers associated with his role, stressing that his security risk is classified as “ultra high.”

Speaking at the Constitution Day Public Lecture, he painted a vivid picture of the hazards faced by himself and his team in their unwavering fight against corruption.

“The position of Special Prosecutor is a thankless job. It earns you numerous enemies daily and brings you face-to-face with the worst forms of human depravity. You don’t seek this job; it finds you,” he stated, emphasizing the precarious nature of his work.

He further remarked on the paradox of public expectations: “Everyone wants the Special Prosecutor to do his job — until the investigation involves them. Support for the office often depends on the subject of the inquiry,” he noted, reflecting the widespread resistance to justice and accountability.

The Special Prosecutor highlighted the intense backlash that accompanies corruption investigations. “While we all agree on the need to curb corruption, few are willing to submit to scrutiny. No one welcomes indictment, investigation, or being named a suspect in corruption-related activities. This resistance often leads to strong pushback designed to distract from accountability,” he explained.

He described the various forms of this pushback, including coordinated attacks, smear campaigns, and malicious publications aimed at discrediting the Office of the Special Prosecutor (OSP). More alarming, however, is that these threats sometimes escalate beyond reputational damage, posing serious risks to personal safety.

Some of the enemies this job attracts will not hesitate to take a life should the opportunity present itself,” he warned, stressing that both he and his operational officers live under constant threat.

“Thus, my security risk is ultra high, and I have to perpetually be on the lookout for attacks on my person.”

The Office of the Special Prosecutor (OSP) has been actively investigating high-profile cases, including an inquiry into four corruption investigations such as the National Cathedral project and Strategic Mobilization Limited (SML).
