On Wednesday, August 14, 2024, Spotify will update its app on Apple devices in the European Union to include pricing information for its various plans and services.

This change comes after Apple had previously rejected Spotify’s request to add this information, citing Spotify’s refusal to accept Apple’s new terms for music streaming services.

Spotify has now agreed to these terms but will not provide an external link for purchases within the app, as it aims to avoid paying Apple a commission on transactions.

Apple had indicated that accepting its terms did not necessitate including an external payment link.

“While this is progress, it’s only a small step in the long march towards giving iPhone consumers basic product experiences they expect and deserve in their apps,” Spotify said in a statement.

In early April, Apple eased communication requirements for music streaming apps on iOS devices in the EU, following a €1.84 billion ($2 billion) fine from Brussels for restricting competition in its App Store.

Apple has not yet responded to a Reuters request for comment.
