Seven protesters from the Democracy Hub have been discharged by the state following their court appearance with a total of 19 individuals.

This decision comes after the protesters were released from custody.

During the proceedings, state attorneys announced that they would discontinue the trial against these seven individuals.

They also indicated that they have filed a second batch of disclosures and plan to submit witness statements to the court on the next adjourned date.

The discharged protesters include Kingsley Adiedu, Seth Cofie, Gloria Louis, Nii Quaye Hammond, Manuel Biney, Joseph Dorsese, and Ernest Acheampong. The case has been adjourned to November 21, 2024.

Nicholas Normeshie, the lawyer representing the discharged protesters, expressed satisfaction with the state’s decision, asserting that his clients are innocent.

“The state dropped charges against those seven clients and as we have always maintained, my clients were innocent of the charges levelled against them. So, we are happy that the state took the decision to discontinue the case.

“From the position of the state, I doubt they will be rearrested. If not, they would have done that the moment they came out of the court. As lawyers, our objective is to ensure that our clients have liberty and that has been evident today,” he stated.
