Stephen King just expressed how the Oscars should be cancelled in solidarity with the LA fire victims.

The 77-year-old iconic author revealed that he won’t be casting any votes this year urging the platform of the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences to drop this year’s ceremony as a “glitzy” event to take place would not be appropriate given many people lost their homes to the fire in Los Angeles.

On Bluesky, the IT writer penned, “Not voting in the Oscars this year. IMHO they should cancel them. No glitz with Los Angeles on fire.”

King is not the only one who called for the Oscars to be called off, with Jean Smart previously asking the organization to not televise upcoming awards shows.

She even urged the media execs to donate the revenue such broadcasts would have raised to the victims and firefighters affected by the infernos.

“Attention! With ALL due respect, during Hollywood’s season of celebration, I hope any of the networks televising the upcoming awards will seriously consider NOT televising them and donating the revenue they would have garnered to victims of the fires and the firefighters,” Smart wrote on her Instagram.

The Academy Awards nominations announcement has indeed already been delayed due to the LA wildfires with the voting period having been extended till January 17, with the shortlisted being unveiled on January 23 and the ceremony itself having been scheduled for March 3.
