John Stones scored a dramatic equalizer in the dying seconds, ensuring Manchester City salvaged a point against 10-man Arsenal at the Etihad Stadium amid chaos and controversy.

Arsenal had put up a stellar defensive effort after Leandro Trossard’s first-half dismissal and were just moments away from what would have been a remarkable victory for manager Mikel Arteta.

However, Stones netted the equalizer following a well-executed short corner in the seventh minute of added time.

The Gunners, who initially fell behind to Erling Haaland’s 100th goal for City, turned the match around to lead before halftime.

City’s troubles deepened when they lost key player Rodri to a knee injury in the 21st minute, and shortly after, Arsenal’s Riccardo Calafiori scored with a powerful angled shot past Ederson.

Arsenal showcased their set-piece prowess again as Gabriel headed in a corner just before halftime, echoing his winner against Tottenham the previous week.

The most controversial moment came right before the break when Trossard received a second yellow card for kicking the ball away, leaving Arsenal feeling aggrieved, especially since City’s Jeremy Doku had not been penalized for a similar act.

Despite being a man down, Arsenal defended valiantly after the break, with goalkeeper David Raya playing a crucial role.

They were on the verge of handing City their first home Premier League loss since November 2022 when Stones intervened at the last moment, keeping City at the top of the league.
