The Paramount Chief of the Kpembe Traditional Area, Kpembewura Banbagne Ndefeso IV, has issued a strong warning to the youth in Gonjaland to stop disrespecting traditional rulers.

He emphasized that any actions or behaviors undermining the authority of chiefs will not be tolerated.

“Let me state with pride that the Gonja Kingdom, if not the best organized, is certainly among the best-organized traditional authorities in Ghana and West Africa.

It is therefore deeply regrettable that some indiscipline youth have chosen to abandon these respectful and time-tested channels in favor of actions that only serve to bring shame upon themselves and our esteemed Kingdom.”

“The actions of some disgruntled, irate, and indiscipline youth, who recently gathered in front of the palace of the Overlord of the Gonja Kingdom (Yagbonwura Bii-Kunuto ) to chant unprintable words against him. The Yagbonwura is approachable, friendly and hence will never be toyed with by anyone,” he stated.

He further stated that “Such behavior is unacceptable and will not be tolerated. It undermines the respect and dignity of our chieftaincy institution, which has always been a cornerstone of our community and cultural identity.”

The Kpembewura advised the youth of Gonja to refrain from such shameful and narrow-minded behavior and to uphold the values of respect and discipline for which the Kingdom is known.

“I want to caution the politicians who have made it a habit to engage in inciting youth to disrespect our chiefs. This behavior is not only disrespectful and unruly but also dangerous.”

“This threatens to erode the very fabric of our society and culture. Let it be known that the curses of the skins and the ancestors are powerful, and they will be invoked upon those who continue to show disregard for our traditional authorities,” he added.

He urged politicians to change their ways, avoid disrespect, and engage with chiefs with the respect and honor they deserve.

“The Gonja Kingdom remains committed to peace, order, and the development of our people. We will continue to work towards maintaining the high standards of governance and social cohesion that have been our hallmark for centuries,” he said.
