The Food and Drugs Authority (FDA) has ordered the immediate suspension of the production of Tasty Tom Enriched Tomato Mix by Nutrifoods Ghana Limited, following the discovery of significant health and safety breaches at the company’s manufacturing facility.

In a statement issued on Sunday, August 3, the FDA disclosed that the suspension follows an earlier directive to recall all canned Tasty Tom Enriched Tomato Mix products, including specific batches of the 380g and 1.05kg pouch variants.

The regulatory authority explained that the action was triggered by a series of consumer complaints, prompting an inspection of Nutrifoods Ghana’s operations.

The inspection revealed poor maintenance of critical manufacturing equipment and inadequate monitoring systems to ensure the consistent safety and quality of the product.

The FDA reaffirmed its commitment to protecting public health and assured consumers that it will continue to monitor the situation closely to ensure compliance before any resumption of production is permitted.

The FDA said production will remain suspended until the company addresses the violations and implements corrective measures that meet the Authority’s standards.

It added that monitoring efforts would continue to ensure compliance and safeguard public health.
