Police in Tamale have arrested Alhassan Lukman, a teacher, for allegedly facilitating the illegal transfer of voters from polling stations in the town.
Lukman is accused of collecting voter ID cards from individuals in the Tamale South and Sagnarigu constituencies under the guise of offering them support from some Arabs.

However, the victims discovered during the ongoing voters’ register exhibition exercise that their names had been transferred to Pusiga in the Upper East Region without their consent.
Alarmed by this, they reported the incident to the Tamale Metro Police, leading to Lukman’s arrest.
In response, the leadership of the National Democratic Congress (NDC) in the Northern Region has issued a 24-hour ultimatum to the Electoral Commission to identify and arrest any EC officials involved in the illegal transfer of voters from the Tamale area to Pusiga.
The NDC warned that failure to take action would undermine the credibility of the EC.
