The Ghana Education Service (GES) has officially announced an extension of the deadline for the 2025 Teacher Promotion Application process, following widespread technical challenges that disrupted access to the online portal. The move is aimed at ensuring that all eligible educators have sufficient time to complete their submissions without undue stress.

Originally launched on Monday, August 18, 2025, the application portal was scheduled to close on Friday, September 5, 2025. However, shortly after its launch, applicants began reporting difficulties accessing the system, including login failures, document upload errors, and concerns over data security. These issues prompted GES to temporarily pause the portal and initiate a full-scale technical review.

In a public update shared via Facebook on Thursday, August 28, 2025, GES reassured teachers that its technical team is actively working to resolve the glitches and enhance the platform’s performance.

“Our ultimate goal is to ensure that every eligible teacher who has served at least four years on their current rank and is due for promotion is fully supported to go through a stress-free application process,” the statement read.
“We, therefore, encourage all prospective applicants to remain calm while the technical team works diligently. As soon as the portal is restored, applicants will be duly informed to proceed with their submissions.”

The 2025 promotion exercise covers four key ranks within the teaching profession:

RankEligibility Requirement
Deputy DirectorMust have attained Assistant Director I rank in or before 2020 and remained at post
Assistant Director IMust have been promoted to Assistant Director II in or before 2020

GES clarified that teachers with an approved undergraduate degree will automatically be placed at the Principal Superintendent level. Those applying with Master’s or PhD qualifications must ensure their academic programmes were GES-approved and completed after their last promotion. Only certificates earned on or before 2022 will be considered for promotions beyond Principal Superintendent.

All applications must be submitted online via the designated portal: https://bit.ly/gespromotions2025. Applicants are required to upload supporting documents in PDF format and passport photographs in JPG or PNG formats.
