Tensions flared in Agona West when a gunshot was fired during a mini-rally, resulting in one person sustaining gunshot wounds and several others suffering minor injuries.

According to TV3’s Central Regional correspondent Thomas Cann, supporters of Chris Arthur, the New Patriotic Party (NPP) parliamentary candidate, were traveling to Agona Swedru after a campaign launch in Otinkorang.

They encountered supporters of incumbent MP Cynthia Morrison, now running as an Independent candidate, who were campaigning at Agona Nyankrom.

The gunfire struck Haruna Rashid, the campaign team manager for Chris Arthur, injuring him in the ribs.

Other party supporters also suffered injuries and were quickly taken to the Agona Swedru Government Hospital for treatment.

NPP constituency chairman Jabril Tanko addressed the media following the incident, stating, “Unfortunately, our Nasara Coordinator was shot. We rushed him to the hospital, but he was referred to Korle Bu.

This shooting is unusual for Agona West; we have not experienced such violence in our years of politics. We have filed an official complaint with the police, who have assured us that the perpetrators will be apprehended.”
