Tension has escalated at the Eastern Regional Office of the Electoral Commission (EC), despite heavy police reinforcement, as the Nsawam Adoagyiri parliamentary election results remain disputed.

Party leaders from the National Democratic Congress (NDC) and the New Patriotic Party (NPP), along with their parliamentary candidates, Fume Selorm Philibert (NDC) and Frank Annoh-Dompreh (NPP), are challenging the outcome of the election in the constituency.

Reports suggest that over 100 pink sheets both original and duplicate copies from various polling stations were destroyed during a scuffle at the district collation centre on Friday.

In a press briefing held at 10 p.m. on Saturday, December 7, the NDC announced victory in the parliamentary race, citing results from their internal collation.

In response, the NPP’s parliamentary candidate, Frank Annoh-Dompreh, held a counter-press briefing on Sunday, challenging the NDC’s claim and declaring himself the Member of Parliament-elect.

A police reinforcement team was deployed to restore calm and prevent further escalation as tensions mounted. Meanwhile, stakeholders are awaiting the outcome of a closed-door meeting between the EC, Frank Annoh-Dompreh, and the NDC’s regional leadership.

In a related development, Channel One News has confirmed that the results declared by the EC for the Fanteakwa North Constituency are also being challenged by the New Patriotic Party, adding to the growing list of disputed outcomes in the 2024 elections.
