Kwame Jantuah, a prominent member of the Convention Peoples Party (CPP), has suggested that a presidential debate between Vice President Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia and the National Democratic Congress (NDC) flagbearer John Dramani Mahama could potentially reveal vulnerabilities for Dr. Bawumia.

Jantuah believes that during such a debate, Dr. Bawumia might face questions about basic consumer goods prices, such as tomatoes, onions, and other food items, and that his responses may not portray him favorably.
“The debate will expose him. He will be asked how much is food inflation now, how much is tomatoes, and onions, what will he say?” Mr Jantuah said on the New Day show on TV3 Friday, July 12.
Abraham Amaliba, the Director of Conflict Resolution for the National Democratic Congress (NDC), responded to Dr. Bawumia by asserting that there is no need for a debate on the economy because the current issues are already evident to Ghanaians.
Amaliba claimed that Ghanaians have observed that the exchange rate during the Mahama administration was significantly better than the current situation.
“He should go and debate with the exchange rate. The debate he is looking for with Mahama will be a complete waste of prime time and even suicidal for Bawumia,” Amaliba also said on the New Day on TV3 on Friday July 12.
