On Monday, November 20, 2023, the New Patriotic Party (NPP) rescinded the membership of several individuals who had openly declared their support for Alan Kyerematen, a former member of the party. In an official statement, the NPP suspended the memberships of Hopeson Adorye, Nana Ohene Ntow, Boniface Abubakar Saddique, and Yaw Buaben Asamoa for contravening the party’s stance on endorsing candidates not officially endorsed by the party.

Notably absent from the list was Sylvester Tetteh, the Member of Parliament for Bortianor-Ngleshi-Amanfro, and a prominent figure in Kyerematen’s campaign during his tenure with the NPP. The exclusion of Tetteh from the list of suspended members can be attributed to a strategic move he made when Alan Kyerematen announced his withdrawal from the November 4, 2023, contest and subsequently resigned from the New Patriotic Party.

In accordance with Article 3(5)(A)(4) of the NPP constitution, all members are mandated to “abide by and publicly uphold the decision of the party.” Sylvester Tetteh managed to evade suspension due to his prompt action in response to Kyerematen’s withdrawal, effectively distancing himself from the candidate and resigning from the party.

In contrast, the other individuals were deemed by the party to still align with Alan Kyerematen and his new movement for change, leading to their dismissal.
