Civil Society Organisations (CSOs) in the health sector have confirmed that the government has successfully cleared all medical supplies that were previously held up at the Tema Port for over a year.

This development comes after significant advocacy efforts from stakeholders and the minority caucus in Parliament, highlighting prolonged delays in clearing donated supplies from the Global Fund.

Minister of Health, Dr. Bernard Okoe Boye, provided assurances that the clearance process would be completed within two weeks.

In an interview with Citi News, Ernest Amoabeng, acting chairman of the Ghana Coordinating Mechanism of the Global Fund, reported that distribution to regions has commenced, with the warehouse gradually releasing the supplies in stages.

He also expressed satisfaction on behalf of the Global Fund regarding the recent developments.

“I can confirm to you that the clearing of the containers is still ongoing. Last week we visited the warehouse that has been taking delivery of the containers, and we were told that all the containers have been released by the port.

“So they were carting them from the port to the warehouse. As of Monday this week, we received information that the last batch chit that was needed from the GRA for the release of the 64 that was still outstanding has been issued.

“So, I can confirm to you that technically all the containers have been released by the government from the port,” he said.
