On Sunday, there were unconfirmed reports that a coup took place in the Central African country. The unconfirmed report claims that the military was trying to oust the President while president was outside of the country.

According to the reports, Congo Brazzaville is currently grappling with a military coup, raising questions about the stability of the nation

President Denis Sassou Nguesso, 78, has spent 38 years at the helm of the country in central Africa. He was president from 1979 to 1992, then returned in 1997 after a civil war, and has remained in power ever since.

President Denis Sassou Nguesso is said to be in New York, United States to attend the United Nations General Assembly.

However, Thierry Moungalla, the nation’s Minister of Communication and Media, hastily refuted it on his X (Twitter) profile.

“URGENT – Fanciful information suggests serious events that are underway in Brazzaville. The Government denies this fake news. We reassure public opinion about the calm that reigns and invite people to calmly go about their activities,” the minister tweeted.

In recent time, there has been a wave of coups across Africa with the most recent in Gabon where the military sized power in the Central African nation.
