Ghana Football Association (GFA) president Kurt Okraku has expressed his disappointment and frustration with the Black Stars’ recent performances in the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) qualifiers.

Okraku is particularly troubled by the team’s unexpected loss to Angola at the Baba Yara Stadium, which ended a 24-year unbeaten streak at home. Since assuming leadership of the GFA in 2019, Okraku has consistently communicated his high expectations for the team’s success.

While he had previously shown optimism about the Black Stars’ potential for a strong showing at the 2023 AFCON in Ivory Coast, the recent setbacks have prompted him to call for a united effort to improve the state of football in Ghana.

During a visit to the team’s camp on Tuesday, October 8, Okraku emphasized the importance of rekindling the legendary fighting spirit that has defined the four-time African champions.

“I hope this will be the last day I appear before all of you not only to appeal to your hearts but your conscience. The indomitable fighting spirit of the Black Stars has to be resurrected,” he said.

“The honeymoon period is gone. It’s time to show aggression, it’s time to show desire, it’s time to show the willingness to go the extra mile for Ghana,” he added.

The Black Stars will take on Sudan at the Accra Sports Stadium on matchday three this Thursday, October 10, before traveling to Libya for the return match on October 15.
